SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA – Today, Assemblyman Jordan Cunningham announced that he has been endorsed by the CAL FIRE Local 2881, an affiliate of the International Association of Firefighters representing more than 6,000 CAL FIRE and California Department of Forestry firefighters and employees.
“California is burning, and the firefighters who have been on the frontlines for weeks at a time know that Jordan has their backs,” said Tim Edwards, CAL FIRE Local 2881 President. “This year’s fire season has already demonstrated why we need capable firefighters and support systems. Jordan understands the importance of appropriate staffing and giving our firefighters the resources they need to protect our state. We are proud to stand with Jordan in his campaign for reelection.”
Cunningham is also supported by the California Professional Firefighters and the California State Firefighters’ Association.
Cunningham has supported bipartisan legislation protecting California against wildfires and ensuring that the mental health of firefighters is being cared for. Cunningham was a supporter of AB 1116, which would create the California Firefighter Peer Support and Crisis Referral Services, and co-authored a bill to create more firefighting apprenticeship opportunities for minorities and women (AB 579).
After graduating from Atascadero High School, Cunningham graduated from Point Loma Nazarene University with a degree in physics. He then obtained his law degree from the University of California, Berkeley.
Prior to serving in the Assembly, Cunningham served as a deputy district attorney in SLO County, and on the Templeton Unified School Board. He owns a small business with his wife Shauna, and enjoys coaching youth sports and raising their four kids.
